Drukair picks CFM Leap-1A engines for A321XLR and A320neo fleet
Bhutan's Drukair has selected CFM International's Leap-1A engine for the Airbus A321XLR and A320neo aircraft it ordered, extending a relationship with the engine maker that spans more than two decades.

Drukair has chosen the CFM International Leap-1A engine to power the Airbus A321XLR and A320neo aircraft it has on order, the Bhutanese carrier said. The selection covers a fleet that Drukair first disclosed in 2024: two A321XLRs and three A320neos, five aircraft in total.
CFM and Drukair have worked together for more than 20 years, according to the airline, which said the decision further strengthens that cooperation. The carrier's first CFM-powered aircraft was an A319, delivered in 2004 with CFM56 engines. It still operates three A319s, alongside an A320neo that also runs on Leap power.
Drukair chief Tandi Wangchuk said the Leap's efficiency and reliability would support the next stage of the airline's growth in Asia.
The carrier is based at Paro airport and serves 10 international destinations and three domestic ones. The order for the long-range narrowbodies was part of an agreement the airline made public two years ago.
