Düsseldorf airport capacity expansion plans open for public review in September 2026
Revised plans to raise flight movement limits at Düsseldorf airport will be open for public comment from September 2 to October 1, 2026, with objections accepted until October 15.
Düsseldorf airport is pressing ahead with a plan to expand capacity, and the proposal will soon go before the public. The district government of Düsseldorf says revised application documents will be available for public viewing from September 2, 2026 through October 1 of that year. Anyone wishing to object formally will have until October 15 to do so.
The airport's overall ceiling of 131,000 flight movements during its six busiest months would stay the same under the plan. But within that limit, the airport wants to raise scheduled and charter traffic from the current 122,176 movements to as many as 128,000, according to the airport operator.
A further change would raise the hourly cap on flight movements, when both runways are in use, from 47 to as many as 60. The airport said this added flexibility is meant to help cut delays after disruptions such as thunderstorms or airspace congestion.
The district government said the proposal also calls for eight new aircraft parking positions, plus expansions to areas used for flight operations. No timeline has been given for when a final decision on the expansion might follow the public consultation period.
