Düsseldorf Airport upgraded to Level 4 of Airport Carbon Accreditation

Düsseldorf Airport has been certified at Level 4 of the international Airport Carbon Accreditation programme, which requires it to account for emissions from other companies on site as well as its own.

Düsseldorf Airport has been awarded Level 4 of Airport Carbon Accreditation, the international climate programme for airports.

Level 4 requires more than tracking and cutting an airport's own greenhouse gas emissions; emissions from other companies operating at the site must also be counted.

According to the airport, Düsseldorf has reduced its CO₂ emissions by about 80 percent since 2010 and aims to operate carbon-neutral by 2035 at the latest.

More than 75 percent of its current CO₂ emissions come from two gas-fired combined heat and power plants, the airport said. It is examining options including hydrogen or biomethane to cut those emissions.
