EASA validates expanded approvals for Swift 100R unleaded avgas

European regulators have accepted a wider set of FAA approvals for Swift Fuels' 100R unleaded gasoline, opening the fuel to more piston aircraft and engines in Europe.

The European Union Aviation Safety Agency has validated a broader set of US approvals for Swift Fuels' 100R unleaded aviation gasoline, widening the pool of piston aircraft and engines cleared to burn it in Europe. Swift Fuel GmbH, the Germany-based arm of the company, announced the step last week.

The European validation follows an earlier expansion of FAA supplemental type certificates. According to Swift Fuel GmbH, those US approvals now name over 1,600 aircraft models and 1,200 engine models, covering roughly 70 percent of the types the FAA has approved. The EASA action extends that coverage to aircraft and engines holding European certification.

Operators still need the relevant supplemental type certificate before filling with 100R. Swift said owners can check whether their aircraft qualifies and apply for European STCs through an online portal.

The company said 100R is on sale at eight airports, spread across Germany, Austria, the Netherlands and Belgium. A public fuelling point at Hildesheim Airport in Germany opened in late September. Distributor Bollinger Aviation reported the fuel is priced slightly below 100LL in its European market.

Further approvals are expected in 2027, according to Swift Fuel GmbH, covering high-compression engines and aircraft that include Cirrus models. Swift is also running FAA testing of higher-performance piston engines in the United States.
