Eurowings Opens New Crew Training Center in Düsseldorf

Eurowings and Lufthansa Aviation Training opened a new cabin crew training center near Düsseldorf Airport on September 9. It will consolidate most of the airline's cabin crew training in the city, which is Eurowings' largest base.

Until now, Eurowings trained flight attendants in Berlin and Essen. The Essen site has closed and training in Berlin has been reduced. The new Düsseldorf location can handle up to 150 crew members daily.

The center has a section of a retired aircraft fuselage where crews practice emergency scenarios and evacuations in a real cabin. Trainers can fill the darkened cabin with smoke and simulate passenger screaming. A second cabin mock-up will be added soon for service training.

Other equipment includes a tower with an emergency slide, stations for practicing emergency exit operation, cockpit access, and rescuing an unconscious pilot from the cockpit seat. A container is used for firefighting practice.

The center sits in an industrial area about a 20-minute walk from the airport train station and a 10-minute drive from the terminal.
