FAA to Award Single-Source Contract for Controller Training Transportation
The FAA plans a single-source contract with Airport Express for student transportation at its Oklahoma City academy, citing its importance to training continuity.

The Federal Aviation Administration said student transportation at its Oklahoma City academy is critical to keeping air traffic controller training on schedule as the agency increases hiring to address staffing shortages. The FAA intends to award Airport Express a single-source contract to transport students between designated lodging and the Mike Monroney Aeronautical Center, according to an FAA notice.
The FAA said interruptions in service could delay training, disrupt simulator and classroom progression, and affect graduation timelines. Airport Express already has established routes, a cleared workforce, and experience coordinating transportation around academy schedules and security requirements.
The contract is temporary while the FAA reassesses transportation capacity, costs, and future competition. The notice was posted Aug. 31. The deadline for questions is Sept. 7.
