First two F-35A fighters permanently based in Finland arrive at Rovaniemi

Finland's air force has taken delivery of the first two Lockheed Martin F-35A fighters to be permanently stationed in the country, marking the start of the type's introduction at Finnish bases.

The first two Lockheed Martin F-35A fighters to be permanently based in Finland arrived in the country on 1 October 2026, according to the Finnish air force, which received the aircraft at Rovaniemi. The delivery begins the introduction of the new fighter at Finnish locations.

Finland has now taken over ten of the 64 F-35A aircraft it has ordered. Eight of those are temporarily at the Ebbing Air National Guard Base in the US state of Arkansas, where Finnish pilots and maintenance staff are being trained.

Finnish company Patria is involved in production of the aircraft. The company has been manufacturing forward fuselage sections for the F-35 since this year.
