Kazakhstan to take delivery of second Airbus A400M

Airbus is preparing to hand over Kazakhstan's second and final A400M tactical transport, completing a 2021 order. The aircraft is in final technical acceptance after being painted in Kazakh livery at Seville.

Airbus Defence & Space says Kazakhstan's second A400M is nearing delivery and is in the final stage of technical acceptance. The manufacturer released images of the turboprop transport in Kazakh air force markings, applied at its facilities in Seville, Spain.

The handover, announced on 1 October, would complete a 2021 agreement for two of the type. Kazakhstan received the first aircraft in December 2024.

According to Airbus, the aircraft will broaden the country's ability to move personnel, equipment and humanitarian supplies. The company announced the milestone through its social media accounts.

Kazakhstan was the ninth nation to operate the A400M, after Belgium, France, Germany, Luxembourg, Malaysia, Spain, Turkey and the United Kingdom. Indonesia became the tenth operator when it received its first example in November 2025. Airbus says 140 of the aircraft, also known as Atlas, have now been delivered.

The new transports will fly alongside Kazakhstan's existing C295 medium lifters, twelve of which are in service; the first pair arrived in January 2013. Airbus has said a memorandum was signed to set up a domestic maintenance site for the C295, but the facility has yet to be constructed or formally opened and remains in development.

The delivery follows remarks by Airbus chief executive Guillaume Faury in July that the company anticipates further orders for the tactical transport, after a NATO-member initiative to work together on joint operations with the aircraft.
