Fly91 orders 40 ATR 72-600s in largest regional deal

Indian regional carrier Fly91 has placed an order for 40 ATR 72-600 turboprops, the largest single order from a regional airline for the Franco-Italian manufacturer.

Fly91, based in Goa, is ordering 40 ATR 72-600 turboprops. ATR calls it the largest agreement ever from a regional airline. Deliveries begin next year and continue through 2032.

ATR says the order is its largest in nearly a decade and brings its total for the year to 54 aircraft.

The carrier started operations two and a half years ago and currently flies six ATR 72-600s. It plans to grow the fleet to more than 60 aircraft. Fly91 serves 12 cities and will add another destination later this month.

Fly91 values the agreement at around $1 billion. Chief executive Manoj Chacko said the airline was founded to connect emerging Indian cities directly and that the order provides the foundation for scaling significantly.

The expansion will let the airline build a larger regional network, according to the company. Fly91 said India's UDAN regional connectivity program is receiving fresh impetus. Civil aviation minister Ram Mohan Naidu Kinjarapu called regional connectivity a fundamental pillar of India's aviation growth.
