Fraport network reports September passenger growth across most airports

Fraport's global airport network handled 21.1 million passengers in September, up 2.7% year-on-year, with growth at most gateways and a slight decline at Antalya.

Fraport AG reported that its worldwide airport portfolio handled 21.1 million passengers in September, a rise of 2.7% compared with the same month a year earlier.

Frankfurt Airport accounted for 6.1 million of those travellers, an increase of 1.6%. The company attributed continued demand for leisure routes to school holidays that were still running in Bavaria and Baden-Wuerttemberg during the month.

The strongest growth in the group came at Ljubljana Airport in Slovenia, where traffic climbed 16.6% year-on-year to 205,495 passengers. Lima Airport in Peru also posted a double-digit gain, up 10.5% to roughly 2.3 million travellers.

Fraport's 14 Greek airports together handled 5.7 million passengers, 4.2% more than a year earlier. The Bulgarian coastal airports of Burgas and Varna welcomed 554,292 passengers between them, an 8.6% increase.

In South America, the company's Brazilian airports recorded 1.2 million passengers in total, a figure that includes Jericoacoara Airport for the first time since it joined the network. Fortaleza and Porto Alegre, Fraport's longer-established Brazilian gateways, grew 2.1% combined.

Antalya Airport in Turkey was the exception, with passenger numbers down 1.7% to about 5.1 million.
