Fraport plans ground power for all Frankfurt Airport stands by 2030
Fraport intends to supply ground power to every aircraft parking position at Frankfurt Airport by 2030, using fixed connections or battery-electric units. The programme has drawn federal funding.

Fraport plans to modernise ground power supply for parked aircraft at Frankfurt Airport as part of its wider Net Zero Master Plan. By 2030, the operator says all 252 parking positions will either be connected to a ground power grid or fitted with mobile battery-electric ground power units.
The company has also commissioned additional systems that supply pre-conditioned cabin air. The two projects received 8.7 million euros from the Federal Ministry of Transport, under a programme aimed at market activation of alternative technologies for supplying ground power to aircraft at airports. NOW GmbH coordinates the directive, and the Federal Office for Administrative Services approves applications.
Not every stand will get a fixed connection. Fraport said existing infrastructure limits mean not every parking position can be equipped with a stationary 400 Hz power connection. Those remaining positions will instead be served only by battery-powered ground power generators that supply the onboard systems of parked aircraft. Fraport is to receive 227,000 euros from the ministry to buy two such generators, raising the total number of battery-electric ground power units it operates.
