Global airport traffic reached 9.8 billion passengers in 2025, ACI says
Airports Council International World reports a record 9.8 billion passengers at commercial airports in 2025, alongside an all-time high in air cargo, but says growth has slowed in 2026.
Airports worldwide handled a record 9.8 billion passengers in 2025, according to Airports Council International World's annual World Airport Traffic Report. Global air cargo volumes also set a record for the year.
The figures are based on data from 2,817 commercial airports, which ACI World calls its largest data set so far. The organization says the data covers an estimated 97% of scheduled global passenger traffic.
Growth has cooled since then. Passenger numbers are rising more slowly in 2026, which ACI attributes to geopolitical and economic headwinds, while cargo traffic continues to expand.
