Iberia to mark 100th anniversary in 2027 with special livery and flight display

Iberia has laid out the programme for its 100th anniversary in 2027. The Spanish carrier presented the plans 100 days before celebrations begin, and chief executive Marco Sansavini gave a first look at an anniversary livery that several aircraft will carry: a large red 100 on a white fuselage.

The main event is set for June 2027, the month Iberia was founded, in the hangars at La Muñoza in Madrid. The airline also plans to honour Iberia staff who were a strong presence in the Barajas district last century by placing a tail fin at a prominent location.

A large flight display at Cuatro Vientos airfield in Madrid forms part of the anniversary, and events will be held in other Spanish cities and in Latin America, in Buenos Aires, Bogotá, Mexico City and São Paulo. Latin America is Iberia's most important market and will be a particular focus of the centenary. A special flight, IB100, is planned to symbolically trace the century shaped by the people at Iberia.

Across 2027 the airline also intends to improve the customer experience. Iberia said one of the most important milestones will be the modernisation of the cabins on its long-haul aircraft.
