Israir cleared by FAA to launch US flights
Israeli carrier Israir has received final FAA authorization to begin scheduled service to the United States, with a planned Tel Aviv–New York route.
Israir, the Israeli budget carrier, has received final approval from the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration to operate scheduled passenger flights to the United States, the airline said.
Ticket sales are expected to open soon, according to the airline, and flights could begin by October 19. Israir had earlier said it intends to connect Tel Aviv with New York, though it has not specified which of the three major New York-area airports it will use.
The move would make Israir the third Israeli carrier flying to New York. El Al, the national flag carrier, already serves both JFK and Newark. Arkia, Israel's second-largest airline, operates nonstop flights to JFK.
United Airlines and Delta Air Lines are both planning to resume service between New York and Tel Aviv in September, adding competition on the route from the U.S. side.
Israir is based in Tel Aviv and currently flies to more than 30 destinations across Europe from Ben Gurion International Airport. Its network also includes flights to Morocco, Tanzania, the United Arab Emirates, countries in the Caucasus region, and Kazakhstan.
No further details on aircraft, frequency, or which airport will be used for the New York service have been disclosed.
