ITA Airways marks fifth anniversary with 109-aircraft fleet
ITA Airways celebrated five years of operations on 15 October, five years after its first flight from Milan-Linate to Bari. The carrier says it has flown about 72 million passengers since its founding.

ITA Airways marked its fifth anniversary on 15 October. The Italian carrier's first flight, on 15 October 2021, left Milan-Linate for Bari at 6:20 local time, operated with an Airbus A320 painted in a special "Born in 2021" livery.
Since its founding, the airline says it has carried roughly 72 million passengers on more than 580,000 scheduled flights. Its fleet has grown to 109 aircraft, of which 75 percent are of the latest generation.
For the winter 2026/27 schedule, ITA Airways plans a total of 55 destinations. Sixteen of those are within Italy, 21 fall in the international short- and medium-haul network, and 18 are long-haul.
Chief executive Joerg Eberhart said the airline intends to continue its international expansion in cooperation with the Lufthansa Group. Broadening the long-haul network in particular forms part of a joint development and investment plan, according to the carrier.
ITA Airways took over from Alitalia, whose successor it is.
