Jeppesen ForeFlight adds AI agents to its Airflow airline operations platform

Jeppesen ForeFlight has introduced its first artificial intelligence agents for the Airflow platform, aimed at crew scheduling and operational disruption handling rather than pilot-facing tools.

Jeppesen ForeFlight has announced its first artificial intelligence agents for the Airflow platform, extending its AI work into airline operations. The initial tools focus on crew scheduling and operational disruptions, not the functions pilots use directly.

The first release has three agents. Trip Trading is built for crews exchanging trips. Target Mastery helps planners construct crew schedules. Augmented Ops Control assesses possible responses when aircraft or crew disruptions arise. The company said the system can weigh factors including fatigue, reserve coverage, cost and crew connections.

According to Jeppesen ForeFlight, Airflow supplies the information and reasoning behind its recommendations rather than making operational decisions on its own. Human operators remain responsible for acting on those recommendations, and the company says the system is meant to work inside existing Safety Management System processes.

CEO Brad Surak said the industry differs from others in the safety, efficiency, comfort and global regulations required to fly passengers and cargo. He described Airflow as an aviation-grade platform that each operator can adopt at its own pace, level of automation and mix of agents.

The company plans to add Airflow agents for business and military aviation, and is seeking commercial operators to take part in a development phase ahead of a wider rollout expected early next year.

The announcement follows earlier efforts to bring AI into ForeFlight products. In a launch announcement after its separation from Boeing, Surak called artificial intelligence the north-star of the company's multi-year roadmap. ForeFlight has also added AI features to its pilot-facing products.
