KLM's first Airbus A350-900 completes maiden flight in Toulouse
The first Airbus A350-900 for KLM completed its initial test flight on September 4, 2026, ahead of delivery. The aircraft is expected to enter service on the Amsterdam-Toronto route in late October.
The first Airbus A350-900 destined for KLM completed its maiden flight on September 4, 2026. Still carrying provisional registration F-WZNM, the aircraft departed from Toulouse-Blagnac and returned after a one hour and 34 minute test circuit over southern France. Such flights are standard before delivery.
KLM has named the aircraft 'The Night Watch' after Rembrandt's masterpiece. It is one of 22 A350-900s expected by the Dutch carrier, part of a 50-aircraft order placed by Air France-KLM Group in 2023, with options for 40 more.
Commercial service is scheduled to begin on October 23, 2026, later than the originally planned October 9 date. The aircraft will debut on the Amsterdam–Toronto Pearson route, flight KL691/692, currently operated by Boeing 787 aircraft.
KLM's A350s will be configured with 332 seats: 34 in business class, 26 in premium economy, and 271 in economy. Due to certification delays for the business class seats, the airline may initially operate with that cabin empty.
