Leeds Bradford opens expanded central search zone
Leeds Bradford Airport has opened a new Central Search Zone with three extra-long security lanes, part of a plan to double screening capacity by the end of the year.

Leeds Bradford Airport has opened a new Central Search Zone with three extra-long security lanes, part of its LBA:REGEN programme. Two more lanes should be in service before the end of the year and, the airport says, will double current screening capacity.
Each extra-long lane handles up to 600 passengers an hour. The older lanes managed 350. The airport says the extra throughput is meant to cut queues, improve operational resilience and make security more comfortable.
Virtual queue management lets staff manage passenger flow at busy times, and six eGates scan boarding cards. Passengers needing assistance and Fast Track customers have separate routes.
Leidos supplies the screening equipment and Rohde & Schwarz the body scanners. According to the airport, these let passengers leave electronics and liquids under 100ml in their bags.
