Lufthansa will begin nonstop flights between Frankfurt and Columbus, Ohio, on 5 May 2027, the airline said. No carrier has operated a transatlantic service to the Ohio city before, and the route links central Ohio with the group's main connecting hub in Germany.

Dirk Janzen, Lufthansa Group's vice president of passenger sales for the Americas, said the service gives business and leisure travellers a direct link to Germany and onward points across the group's network. He called the launch part of the carrier's continued expansion in the United States, which he described as its most important market outside its home countries.

The route will operate three times a week with Boeing 787-9 aircraft seating 287 passengers in three cabins: Business, Premium Economy and Economy.

Flight LH406 is scheduled to leave Frankfurt at 11:15 and land at John Glenn Columbus International Airport at 14:00 local time. The return, LH407, departs Columbus at 16:20 and arrives in Frankfurt at 06:15 the following day.

The airline said passengers on the sector will get its Allegris long-haul cabin product and its FOX service concept.
