Mexicana reports first-half operating loss as state funding continues
Mexico's state-owned carrier Mexicana de Aviación posted an operating loss of 513 million pesos in the first half of 2026, according to a newspaper report, while receiving more than 3.8 billion pesos in state funds.
Mexicana de Aviación lost 513 million Mexican pesos (about 24 million euros) in the first half of 2026, according to a report in the newspaper El Financiero. Revenue came to 270 million pesos, roughly 13 million euros, while operating expenses exceeded 783 million pesos, or about 37 million euros.
Per passenger, the state-owned airline took in 1,098 pesos, about 52 euros, against costs of 3,188 pesos, around 151 euros. Over the same six months it received more than 3.8 billion pesos in state funding (about 180 million euros).
The carrier is adding Embraer E190 aircraft to its fleet, but the report says its load factor remains relatively low.
