Naples Airport to close throughout November for runway work

Naples Capodichino Airport will close for all of November so its only runway can be renovated. Italian aviation authority ENAC and airport operator Gesac agreed last summer to the closure, which runs November 1 to 30. Airlines were told in mid-July.

Most carriers will cancel their Naples flights for that period. A few are shifting operations to the nearby airport at Salerno. A photo caption in the article notes that one airline moved its Boeing 737 Max 8 to Salerno during the closure.

Lufthansa Group has cancelled all its group airline flights to Naples in November. From late July, passengers from Frankfurt, Munich, Vienna and Zurich were automatically rebooked onto flights to Rome Fiumicino, subject to approval. Customers who do not agree can request rebooking on other carriers. In some cases the group will cover the cost of train or bus travel from Rome to Naples. Eurowings is moving its Naples services from Stuttgart and Düsseldorf during the same period.

Naples is the fourth-largest airport in Italy and the most important in the south. It handled around 12.7 million passengers and 86,500 aircraft movements in 2024. EasyJet, Ryanair, Wizz Air and Volotea have bases there, and about 40 airlines serve the airport. Traffic is highly seasonal. Roughly half of all flights operate only in summer, so a November closure has less impact than at other times.
