Netherlands Selects Saab GlobalEye for First National AEW&C Capability

The Netherlands and Sweden signed a letter of intent on September 10, 2026 covering a Dutch purchase of Saab GlobalEye airborne early warning and control aircraft. No formal contract has been signed yet. The Dutch defense ministry said the Royal Netherlands Air Force will join a pool with three Swedish Air Force GlobalEyes, allowing shared logistics, maintenance, and possibly mixed crews.

Dutch personnel could begin working with the aircraft by 2028, with delivery expected in 2031. Saab said it is prepared for the next steps in the procurement. Swedish defense minister Pål Jonson said the arrangement strengthens the defense of both countries and of Europe. He also said GlobalEye can detect and track drones, robots, and other threats in the air, at sea, and on land.
