Pakistan extends airspace closure for Indian aircraft
Pakistan has again extended its ban on Indian aircraft using its airspace, forcing carriers such as Air India onto longer routings. Air India puts the cost of the closure at about $600 million.
Pakistan has again extended its airspace closure to Indian aircraft. The ban covers aircraft registered in India and those operated, leased or held by Indian airlines and operators. Military flights are included too.
The airspace has been shut to that traffic since April 2025.
For Indian carriers, the closure means detours on international services heading west, adding flight time, fuel burn and operating costs. Air India puts the cost of the airspace closure at roughly 600 million dollars, or about 516 million euros.
