Pilot union criticises Lufthansa Cityline severance plan

The Cockpit Association (VC) has criticised Lufthansa Cityline over what it calls a "zero severance plan", saying employees face a social plan without financial compensation or support payments.

The cockpit crew union said in a statement on Wednesday, 23 September that staff representation at the airline had already sought to negotiate a social plan before Cityline's planned shutdown in April 2026. Those attempts went unanswered for months.

"For the employees this is a slap in the face," said Anja Granvogl, a VC board member and Cityline pilot. A zero severance plan does not do justice to the performance, loyalty and commitment of colleagues, she said, some of whom have worked for Cityline for more than 20 years.

The union also questioned the position given the financial strength of the Lufthansa Group, stating that billions in profits have been generated in recent years and that management bonuses were paid in full.
