Pilot walks away from Louisiana crash after engine separates in flight
A Cessna 210 came down in a field near Louisiana Regional Airport after its engine detached shortly after takeoff. The 74-year-old pilot was treated at the scene for a minor head injury and declined transport.

A Cessna 210 crashed in Gonzales, Louisiana, on October 13, 2026, shortly after departing, and the 74-year-old pilot suffered only minor injuries. The aircraft ended up upside down in a field near Louisiana Regional Airport (REG).
Gonzales Fire Chief Preston Landry told local media that emergency responders found the pilot up and walking when they arrived. Ascension Parish Sheriff Bobby Webre said the engine broke away from the airframe before impact. The sheriff's office reported a small cut on the pilot's head.
Tracking data showed the flight leaving shortly before 05:00 local time, and the recorded track ended less than a minute later. Authorities have not said how high the aircraft was when the engine came off. Crews were alerted around 05:55, according to Landry.
Medical staff evaluated the pilot on site. He declined an ambulance ride to a hospital. The engine was found on a road about 100 yards from the wreckage, and Landry described fog in the area at the time.
Why the engine separated has not been established. Investigators could look to maintenance records and to an inspection of the engine mount and attachment hardware. Propellers and cowlings have come off light aircraft in flight before, but losing an entire engine is highly unusual in general aviation.
