Qantas to phase out A380 fleet from 2028, earlier than planned
Qantas has brought forward the retirement of its Airbus A380 fleet, saying it will begin phasing the aircraft out in 2028 instead of the early 2030s.
Qantas has moved up the retirement of its Airbus A380 fleet, saying it will start phasing the aircraft out in 2028. The carrier had previously planned to keep the type until the early 2030s.
The decision follows the reactivation of stored A380s that began in 2022. Qantas returned 10 of its 12 former aircraft to service, with the last one coming back in late 2025.
The airline's confidence that its incoming A350-1000ULRs will begin arriving in 2027, along with higher fuel prices in 2026, appear to sit behind the earlier retirement date.
