RAF Voyager Demonstrates Dual Tanker and Flying ICU Capability

The Royal Air Force’s Airbus Voyager took part in Exercise Pitch Black in northern Australia, where it showed both of its main roles: air-to-air refuelling tanker and flying intensive care unit. The exercise takes place every two years and brings partner nations together to practise air combat skills. The Voyager is a militarised version of the Airbus A330 and can be configured for aeromedical evacuation, with the ability to carry critical care patients. The recent deployment showcased the aircraft’s flexibility in supporting combat operations and humanitarian missions.

Exercise Pitch Black aims to build interoperability among participating air forces and enhance collective security and stability across the Indo-Pacific region. The RAF’s participation included the Voyager operating in its tanker role while also demonstrating its medical evacuation capability.
