RECARO expands seating plant in Poland to double output

RECARO Aircraft Seating has opened a bigger production and office complex at Swiebodzin in Poland, lifting the plant's annual output from 60,000 passenger seats to 100,000. The company put the investment at a double-digit million-euro figure.

The site now covers more than 22,000 square metres, up from less than half that. Roughly 8,600 square metres are used for manufacturing, logistics and cut2dress cover work. A revised layout split assembly from logistics and took the number of assembly lines from four to eight, a change meant to smooth the movement of materials. Automated storage and picking equipment is expected within about two years.

Office space grew by some 3,000 square metres to nearly 5,000.

The plant builds Economy Class seats, across the R1, R2 and R3 platforms. Since it began operating, it has produced close to 660,000 passenger seats, according to RECARO.

Over the next five years the expansion calls for more than 200 additional staff at the location.
