Russian lessor sues EasyJet for £72m over six leased Airbus aircraft
An Irish subsidiary of Russian state lessor GTLK claims EasyJet abandoned six Airbus aircraft without maintenance in Madrid and Larnaca after EU sanctions prompted the carrier to cancel the leases.
An Irish subsidiary of Russia's state-owned leasing company GTLK is suing EasyJet for at least 72 million dollars. STLC Europe Eight alleges the British budget airline left six leased Airbus aircraft in Madrid and Larnaca without maintenance after cancelling the lease agreements when EU sanctions took effect.
Three of the aircraft in Larnaca were later recovered and sold. The lawsuit claims they brought in at least 32.5 million dollars less than expected because of their condition. The other three remain in Madrid. EasyJet said it will fully defend itself against the claim.
