Saab 340 Landing Incident in Tonga Under Investigation

An investigation is under way into a landing incident involving a Saab 340 operated by Lulutai Airlines in Vava'u, Tonga. The aircraft, registered ZK-KRA, was provided by Air Chathams. Air Chathams CEO Duane Emeny confirmed the incident to Kaniva Tonga but declined further comment, citing the ongoing investigation.

According to an unnamed source, the aircraft was loaded significantly above its allowable weight. Undocumented baggage was also allegedly brought on board. After landing, the pilot ordered a re-weighing, which reportedly showed a substantial discrepancy. These claims have not been independently verified.

It is not clear whether anyone was injured or whether the aircraft sustained damage. No official statement has been released by Tongan authorities or Lulutai Airlines. The investigation is expected to examine loading procedures and the sequence of events during the landing.
