Saab secures order to develop new flight control computer for Gripen
Sweden's FMV has awarded Saab a contract worth 1.3 billion Swedish kronor to develop a new flight control computer for the Gripen fighter, with delivery planned for 2030.
Saab will develop a new flight control computer for the Gripen fighter under an order from Sweden's defence procurement agency, FMV. The contract is worth 1.3 billion Swedish kronor, about 120 million euros.
Delivery is scheduled for 2030. The computer replaces the current generation and is meant to secure the aircraft's long-term operational capability.
Saab said the work focuses on higher performance, system availability and a long-term assured supply of components. The flight control computer is a core part of the flight control system: it processes control commands and helps ensure the Gripen can be flown safely and precisely, including during demanding manoeuvres.
Development will be carried out in close cooperation between Saab and the Swedish procurement authority. According to the manufacturer, the new system is expected to remain in service for several decades.
