Sarajevo offers incentives to airlines for new routes and base

The canton of Sarajevo is inviting airlines to apply for a subsidy programme covering 2027, aimed at adding routes and basing aircraft at the Bosnian capital's airport.

Sarajevo's canton government wants more flights at the city's international airport and is offering airlines money to get them. The tourism association has opened a call for carriers to apply for a support programme covering 2027.

Airlines can qualify by setting up a base at Sarajevo Airport, launching new direct services to strategically important destinations, or introducing long-haul flights. Applications close on 7 November 2026. How much money is on offer has not been disclosed.

Sarajevo Airport handled about 2.2 million passengers in 2025, up 22.2 percent on the previous year. Bosnia and Herzegovina also has international airports at Banja Luka, Tuzla and Mostar.
