SAS A320neo diverts to Billund after smoke-like odour reported in cabin
A Scandinavian Airlines Airbus A320neo bound for Stockholm made a precautionary landing at Billund on Friday evening after a smell resembling smoke was noticed on board. No visible smoke was seen and the cause is under investigation.
A Scandinavian Airlines Airbus A320neo flying from London Heathrow to Stockholm Arlanda diverted to Billund Airport on the evening of Friday 25 September after a smell similar to smoke was noticed in the cabin, according to the airline and local police.
The aircraft, registration EI-SCE, was operating flight SK528. It landed normally at Billund.
Emergency crews were alerted at 20:57 under a "Standby 2" alert. Police said no smoke was visible inside the aircraft. Passengers disembarked after landing, and firefighters boarded to carry out an inspection.
SAS described the diversion as standard procedure under the circumstances. The carrier moved passengers onward to Copenhagen by bus later that evening. It was not yet clear how their remaining travel would be arranged.
What caused the smell has not been established and remains under investigation.
