Air India suspends co-pilot after positive alcohol test in Zurich
A co-pilot was suspended after testing positive for alcohol at Zurich Airport before a scheduled flight to Delhi. The flight was cancelled and operated the next morning with a different crew.
Air India has suspended a co-pilot who tested positive for alcohol at Zurich Airport, the airline said. The test came on 6 September, before the scheduled flight AI151 from Zurich to Delhi.
Check-in staff smelled alcohol and alerted airport authorities. A breath test then came back positive, according to the New Indian Express.
No replacement crew was available at short notice, so Air India cancelled the flight. It flew the next morning with a different crew. The pilot returned to India as a passenger.
Air India said it will decide on further consequences once it receives the report from the Zurich authorities.
