Stockholm Arlanda named Europe's most punctual airport for summer
Eurocontrol data put Stockholm Arlanda first among Europe's 40 busiest airports for on-time performance between June 1 and August 31, with Oslo Gardermoen second and Istanbul third.
Stockholm Arlanda recorded the best punctuality of any major European airport over the summer, according to figures compiled by Eurocontrol.
The Swedish airport operator Swedavia said Arlanda posted an on-time rate of 82.1% across the June 1 to August 31 period. Eurocontrol ranked the 40 busiest airports in Europe for the comparison, placing Oslo Gardermoen second and Istanbul Airport third.
Swedavia's president and chief executive, Mats Johannesson, credited cooperation between the airport's airlines and ground handling companies for the result, saying the outcome reflected work carried out jointly with those partners.
A central part of that effort is the first departure bank of the day. Morning departures shape how aircraft move through their later rotations, so an orderly start reduces the chance of delays building up over the following hours. Swedavia said the same approach is in place at Arlanda, at Gothenburg Landvetter and at its eight other airports.
Johannesson said the company intends to keep working with its partners on punctuality.
