Salzburg Airport has begun preparatory work on a major terminal rebuild, starting with the demolition of Hangar 2, which has stood on the site since 1966. The cleared ground will take part of the new terminal complex.
Groundbreaking is planned for 2027, with construction expected to run until 2033. The project is costing the airport €105 million, and its owners, the state of Salzburg and the city of Salzburg, are contributing €35 million.
Existing terminal areas will be modernised and connected, and more space created. Hangar 1, now under construction and due for completion by February 2027, is replacing Hangar 2.
