Catania airport closure extended to 22:00 due to Etna volcanic ash
Catania airport will remain shut until at least 22:00 local time on Monday after ash from Mount Etna and high-altitude winds forced the extension of airspace closures. Passengers are being told to check flight status with their airline before travelling.

Catania airport will remain closed until at least 22:00 local time on Monday, 15 September, because of volcanic ash from Mount Etna. SAC, the operating company, extended the suspension of airspace sectors C1 and B3, citing ash emissions and the prevailing winds at altitude. All take-offs and landings are halted for the period, after operations were initially stopped until 10:00.
The airport said passengers should check their flight status with the airline before setting out, and that further information would be published during the day.
