Swiss cabin crew union calls for stronger protection against unruly passengers
Swiss cabin crew union Kapers is demanding that authorities automatically prosecute violence, threats, and assaults against flight attendants, citing a significant rise in unruly passenger incidents recorded by the Federal Office of Civil Aviation.
Swiss cabin crew union Kapers has called for authorities to consistently prosecute violence, threats, coercion, and physical attacks against flight personnel. The union says such incidents have increased significantly.
The Federal Office of Civil Aviation registered 2,043 unruly passenger incidents in 2025, up from 1,730 the previous year. Of these, 523 reports involved verbal aggression, a 45 percent increase compared to 2024.
Kapers argues that attacks on crew members can disrupt their safety-related duties and thereby compromise onboard safety. On September 3, the union will draw attention to the issue with a “STOP VIOLENCE – RESPECT CREW” campaign at Zurich and Geneva airports.
