Swiss court upholds dismissal of unvaccinated cabin crew
Switzerland's Federal Court rejected appeals from two former Swiss flight attendants fired for refusing the airline's Covid-19 vaccination mandate in late 2021. The court found the requirement interfered with their personal rights but was justified by operational needs.
Switzerland's highest court has rejected complaints from two former flight attendants who were fired by Swiss after refusing the airline's Covid-19 vaccination requirement at the end of 2021. Courts in Bülach and Zurich had already ruled against the pair.
The Federal Court accepted that the mandate interfered with the employees' personal rights. It found operational considerations justified it: shifting international entry and vaccination rules required Swiss to plan crew assignments flexibly using vaccinated staff. Without that flexibility, flight cancellations and financial losses were possible.
Swiss dismissed roughly 150 crew members at the time over their refusal to be vaccinated. The latest ruling rejected the appeals brought by the two women.
