SyberJet claims transcontinental speed record with SJ30-2 ahead of SJ36 launch

Arizona-based SyberJet has announced an unofficial transcontinental speed record for its SJ30-2 light business jet, a model whose production ended in 2009. The company said the aircraft flew nonstop from Jacksonville International Airport in Florida to Brown Field Municipal Airport in San Diego on August 18, covering roughly 1,831 nautical miles at an average speed of 505.3 mph. The flight took about four hours and seven minutes.

The flight falls under the Fédération Aéronautique Internationale's C-1.f category, which covers landplanes weighing between roughly 13,228 and 19,842 pounds. SyberJet said the record is unofficial for now, with certification expected within about 90 days.

According to the company, the performance beat a mark set in 2013 by an Embraer Phenom 300, which it said averaged 339.4 mph. Gordon Bryan piloted the flight. SyberJet's chief executive, Trevor Milton, was aboard.

If the certification timeline holds, the record would become official roughly a month after SyberJet plans to unveil its next aircraft, the SJ36, at the NBAA-BACE trade show in Las Vegas in October 2026. SyberJet describes the SJ36 as a longer, upgraded version of the SJ30-2, and the record attempt is part of a broader relaunch effort for the manufacturer.

The aircraft used for the record flight, registered N378PG, was built in 2009, according to FAA registry information. Verification of the claim by the National Aeronautic Association, a U.S. affiliate of the Fédération Aéronautique Internationale, was still pending at the time of the announcement.
