Tecnam brings P2008JC NG trainer to US market, seeks FAA validation

Tecnam is introducing its two-seat P2008JC NG to the US flight-training market and is pursuing FAA Part 23 validation for the aircraft, which already holds European CS-23 certification.

Tecnam announced Tuesday that it is offering its P2008JC NG to US flight schools and has started the process of securing FAA Part 23 validation for the two-seat trainer. The aircraft received European CS-23 certification earlier this year, after the manufacturer introduced it in December.

A 100-horsepower fuel-injected Rotax 912 iS engine powers the P2008JC NG. The airframe pairs a carbon-fibre fuselage with metal wings and a stabilator. According to Tecnam, it burns 3.7 gallons of fuel per hour, cruises at a maximum of 118 knots and has a range of 800 nautical miles. The avionics are Garmin G3X, and the current certification covers day and night VFR operations.

Walter da Costa, Tecnam's chief sales officer, said the US training market is growing quickly, and schools need modern, dependable and economical aircraft to train new pilots.

The P2008JC NG joins a line of Part 23 training aircraft Tecnam sells or plans to sell in the United States. Its two-seat P-Mentor was fully type certificated by the FAA under Part 23 in 2024 and already flies with US flight schools. Tecnam has not said when validation of the P2008JC NG will be complete. Once US certification is in place, the company said, the aircraft is intended for both Part 61 and Part 141 schools.
