Thales to replace air traffic radar in the Faroe Islands
The French defence and aerospace supplier Thales will swap out a flight surveillance radar on the Faroe Islands under a contract from the Danish Defence Acquisition and Logistics Organisation. The new secondary radar is to serve both military and civil air traffic control.

Thales said on Wednesday, 7 October, that it will replace a radar used for flight surveillance in the Faroe Islands.
The order came from DALO, the procurement body of the Danish Ministry of Defence. At the Sornfelli site, an RSM NG will take over from the company's existing RSM 970.
The secondary radar picks up transponder and ADS-B data, among other signals, and is intended to serve both military and civil air traffic control. It will be connected to the AVIANS control centre, among other systems.
Installation and commissioning are planned within six months. According to the company, flight safety operations will not be interrupted while the work is carried out.
