Two killed as ultralight aircraft collide over Austria

Two ultralight aircraft collided in the air near Langenlois in Lower Austria on Monday, August 24, police and fire services said. Both pilots, aged 36 and 70, died in the crash.

One of the aircraft had reportedly been towing a glider and was turning after releasing it when it collided with another ultralight taking off from the nearby Krems-Gneixendorf airfield. The glider was not involved in the collision.

The wreckage of both aircraft fell into a vineyard area near the town and caught fire on impact, authorities said.

The cause of the accident has not yet been determined. An investigation is expected to follow standard procedures for crashes of this kind. No further details on the pilots' identities or flight histories were immediately available.
