UK opens call for airport security screening technologies

UK Defence Innovation has issued an open call for technologies to detect threats and improve screening across the UK transport network, with new aviation-focused areas added by the Department for Transport.

UK Defence Innovation has opened a call for innovators to submit technologies that strengthen security across the country's transport network. The call covers threat detection, screening and protection of passengers and goods.

The Department for Transport added new focus areas on October 1, 2026, alongside existing priorities from the Home Office and the National Protective Security Authority.

The transport department's areas cover screening of hold baggage in aviation, detection of explosive threats in complex freight and large loads, walk-through screening of people and bags with low divestment, integration of situational awareness sensors with autonomous and robotic platforms, and resolution of alarms raised during passenger screening.
