UK start-up Alloyed flies military drone turbojet within seven months
Alloyed has taken a military drone turbojet engine from concept to flight-ready status in under seven months, part of a family of UK-built engines funded by the Ministry of Defence.

Alloyed, a UK start-up, has taken a military drone turbojet engine from concept to flight-ready in under seven months with funding from the Ministry of Defence. It is part of a family of digitally manufactured turbojets developed with the MoD, spanning roughly 30 to 2,000 newtons of thrust for platforms from small drones to larger aircraft.
The engines are designed, built and tested in the UK, using digital design and additive manufacturing to shorten a development cycle that normally runs for years.
Two are in production. The A300, a 300-newton-class design, has completed flight testing and is in UK serial production. The larger A1100, in the 1,100-newton class, went from initial concept to flight-ready in less than seven months.
The programme has also established a UK-based digital design and modelling approach meant to bring new variants into production in months rather than years, according to the MoD.
Military jet engines have historically taken much longer to mature. Armed forces internationally are pursuing low-cost collaborative combat aircraft, uncrewed aircraft meant to operate alongside piloted fighters. Such programmes need production engines within a few years, the source states, rather than the decade or more usually required for clean-sheet powerplants.
