Ukraine claims longest-range strike with home-built FP-1 drones
Ukraine says it used domestically designed FP-1 drones to hit gas plants nearly 1,800 miles inside Russia, marking the war's farthest-reaching strike, according to the Institute for the Study of War.
Ukraine claims to have struck two natural gas processing plants in the Yamalo-Nenets autonomous region of Siberia using Fire Point FP-1 one-way attack drones, targeting sites about 1,800 miles (2,900 km) from the Ukrainian border. The operation was reported on 9 September, with the Novy Urengoy Gas Condensate Treatment Plant and the Purovsky Gas Processing Plant located 1,765 miles and 1,727 miles from the border, respectively. The US-based Institute for the Study of War said this represents the farthest-reaching Ukrainian strike of the war. Fire Point, the Ukrainian defence firm that builds the FP-1, confirmed the operation on Telegram and said the drones traveled over 3,200 km, setting a new long-range strike record. The company said a hit on the facility's premises was confirmed. Ukraine's defence ministry shared video showing Russian industrial sites ablaze, including one with an FP-1 drone overhead.
