United Airlines has obtained approximately $390 million in financing from Standard Chartered to support the acquisition of four Airbus A321neo and five Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft, according to a statement from the British bank. The arrangement, announced in mid-August 2026, was described by Standard Chartered as backing United's ongoing fleet optimization and fuel efficiency strategy.
Standard Chartered served as both lead arranger and initial lender for the deal. The bank said the financing would help United continue investing in newer-generation narrowbody jets. A senior Standard Chartered executive overseeing transportation finance said the transaction builds on the bank's existing relationship with United and reflects growth in its aviation finance operations, noting that airlines increasingly favor financing partners able to move quickly and provide financing at scale.
This is not the first such arrangement between the two companies. In October 2025, Standard Chartered had already arranged financing covering five Airbus A321neo aircraft for United.
According to fleet-tracking data cited in coverage of the deal, United has a substantial number of narrowbody aircraft on order, including 132 Airbus A321neos and 49 A321XLRs, along with 58 Boeing 737 MAX 9s and 165 737 MAX 10s awaiting delivery. The latest financing covers only a small portion of that broader order book, focused specifically on four A321neo and five 737 MAX 8 jets.
No further financial or delivery-timeline details were disclosed beyond the total value of the transaction and the aircraft types involved.
