United Airlines has changed 56 of its Boeing 787-9 orders to the bigger 787-10, trading range for seats on routes where gates and slots are tight.

United Airlines has moved 56 of its Boeing 787-9 orders to the larger 787-10, the biggest single change to its widebody order book in years.
The swap trades range for capacity. The 787-10 falls short of the aircraft it replaces on the order sheet by between 1,135 and 1,200 nautical miles, or 2,102 to 2,222 kilometres.
The airline is accepting that trade-off because it needs more seats on routes where its aircraft are already limited by available gates and slots, according to the source.
