United flight to Newark returns to Dublin after cabin odour
A United Airlines transatlantic service bound for Newark turned back to Dublin shortly after departure after an odour was detected in the passenger cabin. The flight was cancelled and the aircraft taken out of service for inspection.

A United Airlines flight from Dublin to Newark Liberty International Airport returned to Dublin shortly after departure on Sunday after an odour was reported in the passenger cabin.
Flight UA316 left Runway 28R at 13:10 UTC, according to the tracking report. The Boeing 757-200, registered as N14118, climbed to 31,000 feet before the crew stopped the climb. About 20 minutes into the flight, the crew decided to turn back toward Ireland. A source familiar with the matter said the turnback followed a strong, headache-inducing smell inside the cabin.
Air traffic controllers vectored the aircraft back to Dublin, where it landed safely roughly an hour after takeoff.
United cancelled the remainder of the flight. Passengers were deplaned at Dublin Airport, and the aircraft was removed from service for maintenance inspections and safety checks to establish the source of the odour.
