United to launch Washington-Toulouse route with flight number echoing Lufthansa's playful LH2222
United Airlines will start a daily nonstop service between Washington Dulles and Toulouse in April 2027, numbering the flight UA222 in an apparent nod to Lufthansa's well-known LH2222.

United Airlines plans to begin a daily nonstop flight between Washington-Dulles and Toulouse starting April 26, 2027, according to the airline. The route will carry the flight number UA222, a choice that echoes Lufthansa's long-running Munich-Toulouse service, flight LH2222.
Lufthansa's flight number has become something of an in-joke among travelers over the years. Cabin crew announce it in English as "Lufthansa flight two two two two to Toulouse," and recordings of the announcement have circulated widely online. United's new number would similarly be announced as "United flight two two two to Toulouse," though with one fewer repeated digit than its Star Alliance partner's number.
The report noted that the numbering was first spotted by an industry trade outlet before being picked up more widely.
United intends to operate the new route with an Airbus A321XLR, a long-range narrowbody variant that allows the carrier to serve European cities that might not otherwise justify a larger widebody aircraft. Toulouse is home to Airbus's headquarters and final assembly lines, making the destination notable for an aircraft delivery of this type.
The move follows a broader trend of airlines using flight numbers for marketing or novelty purposes; the piece also mentioned Allegiant Air's flight 925 to Dollywood, a number chosen to reference the Dolly Parton song "9 to 5."
